Community Partnerships

Community partners are essential in helping WCWH cultivate long-lasting relationships between people and groups across the area. By acting as a bridge between academia and the community, we are able to better support the health & well-being of our participants and the communities they live in.

We’re honored to showcase the incredible organizations that have partnered with us, making it possible for our researchers to truly connect and make an impact.

Community Coalition for Health

Since WCWH began, Community Coalition for Health (C2H) has been there. Founder Dr. Charles A. Moody joined our community strategy team, and quickly recruited C2H’s CEO, Mia Greer, to join as well.

Charles and Mia use their unique connections to improve the wellness journey of those they serve and have been integral partners in guiding the research at WCWH and keeping it focused on the needs of the community. C2H is a non-profit organization that provides well-being and health awareness services to minority communities, with a focus on the communities in the Eastern Crescent of Travis County. The program provides awareness that empowers, informs, and inspires individuals and families to lead healthy lifestyles.

They’ve even used their experience with WCWH as a launching pad for their own work, collaborating with the WCWH air-quality team to conduct initiatives with their own members.

AVANCE-Austin

AVANCE-Austin has been instrumental in ensuring that our research is both inclusive and culturally responsive, helping us connect with and engage hard-to-reach families in meaningful ways.

They create pathways to economic mobility for predominantly Latino families through high-quality, culturally responsive, two-generation programming that ensures school readiness for young children and opportunities for parents to build social and economic capital.

Executive Director Maggie Jaime and Program Manager Zobeida Guerrero have worked on the Community Strategy Team, helping guide the WCWH research process and hosting multiple informational sessions with their participants in support of our recruitment efforts for the study.

AVANCE is a national non-profit organization, primarily serving Texas, that works hard to meet low-income families where they are.

Del Valle Community Coalition

Del Valle Community Coalition (DVCC) has been instrumental in fostering an environment where residents can come together, engage with city and county leaders and pursue proactive solutions to community challenges.

DVCC’s efforts to cultivate a pipeline of empowered citizens aligns with our shared vision of creating lasting impact in the Del Valle area.

We are proud to support their tireless work to advocate for and uplift the Del Valle community, including initiatives like Del Valle Day, the Spring Fair, and the Turkey Trot and Turkey Drive/Giveaway.

Ojeda Middle School

Ojeda Middle School’s partnership with WCWH has significantly enhanced our ability to make a lasting impact in the Del Valle community.

By hosting health education sessions and community events like the WCWH Community Resource Day, Ojeda provides a central, trusted space where families can access valuable resources and information.

Through the leadership of Rebecca Gomez and the school’s commitment to community engagement, we’ve been able to reach more families and empower them with tools to improve their health and overall well-being.

WIC

WIC has played a crucial role in allowing us to connect with families in meaningful ways.

Thanks to WIC’s established relationships and trusted presence in the community, we’ve been able to engage nearly one-third of our current participants through this method. Their ongoing partnership continues to bolster our efforts to create lasting impact.

Children’s Wellness Center

Since the beginning, our partners at the UT School of Nursing’s Children’s Wellness Center (CWC) have provided critical support by offering their space for our researchers and staff to meet with families who prefer not to have home visits.

CWC has been essential in our recruitment efforts, providing a hub for visits with study participants and a central location for our Community Strategy Team meetings.

Their Social Resource Room has also been a vital resource for connecting participants with the services they need.
