Museum of South Texas Sunday Speaker Series Online - Mitigation, Preparedness and Disaster Response

Using historical context established in the previous two presentations on Hurricane Beulah and the effects of flooding in the Rio Grande Valley, scientists will discuss ways the community can mitigate against natural disasters. They will also reflect on approaches to developing regional action plans. Panelists: Suzanne Pierce Ph.D., Barry Goldsmith, Raul E. Sesin P.E., CFM This is the final presentation in a three-part collaborative series between MOSTHistory and Planet Texas, a University of Texas research center dedicated to the rigorous study of climate change.

Texas Smart Cities - Household Online Shopping Demand in the U.S.: A Machine Learning Approach and Comparative Investigation between 2009 and 2017

We leverage unique features from the two latest releases of the National Household Travel Survey (NHTS) data and a machine learning approach to predict household-level online shopping purchases in the US. The modeling and investigation are performed at the national level and for three of the largest cities (New York, Los Angeles, and Houston), with a number of insights obtained.
