Project summary:

Our research designs and prototypes new ways to find, interpret, and evaluate online information with the goal of helping to combat rampant misinformation. Our prototypes also will enable us to study how people evaluate and integrate information coming from disparate online sources, with a particular focus on fact-checking as it relates to the COVID-19 pandemic. By studying human-AI interaction in the context of misinformation, we can gain broader insights into designing socially-responsible AI.  We will accomplish this with an interdisciplinary team that combines system design and building and human-centered evaluation. We will demonstrate how responsible AI technologies can help combat misinformation and leverage this integrative test case to yield broader insights into designing socially-responsible AI.
